抢孤

在普度的广场上搭起高丈余的台子，上面放满各式各样的供品。普度完毕，主持人一声令下，大家就蜂拥而上抢夺，因为没有秩序易造成伤亡，所以清朝下令停办。民国八十一年宜兰头城再度举办此活动，仍延袭旧制，架高近四层楼的棚子，上放置十三盏食物和纯金牌。参加的队伍以每五人一组，每队各据一根柱子，待主办者一下令，选手便奋不顾身望往上攀爬。由于有游戏规则所以没有混乱的场面，是一项值得提倡的民俗体育。抢孤由来：因为七月普度鬼魂群集，为了怕它们流连忘返，所以有人发明此活动。据说当鬼魂看到一群比自己还要凶猛抢夺祭品的人时，会被吓得逃开。

七月半做普度

中元节七月半做普度，主要活动虽在七月十五日，但在泉州鲤城区地界即有三十六个铺境，如果都在七月十五日这一天举行，买菜办筵席、演戏酬神、请客饮宴等等方面都十分不方便，所以经耆老绅士公议，三十六个铺境的普度，分别从七月初一至七月三十日举行，所以旧鲤城区在七月这一个月是无日不普，天天演戏酬神宴客，整个七月都在忙于做普度。经过协商安排，七月初一日由后城做普度，以后各铺境轮流。直到七月三十日为止。

祭魁星

永和县读书人於此日祭魁星。长子县的牧羊人家於中元节屠羊赛神，俗传如此可使羊只增加生产。又赠肉给诸亲戚，家贫无羊者则蒸面作羊形来代替。阳城县农家以麦屑作成猫、虎及五谷之形，於田间祭祀，称为“行田”。马邑县民中元节以麦面作儿童的形状，名为“面人”，互赠亲戚家的小孩。忻县农民於中元节在田梗上挂五色纸。
